Leadership from the Grassroots Up
To elevate the visibility of the Urban and Community Forestry program in California, California ReLeaf proposes to strengthen and grow the California ReLeaf Network of community-based tree organizations and build greater public awareness of the need for a sustainable urban forest.
Currently, the California ReLeaf Network is 78 members strong and funding from this grant will allows them to: outreach to emerging groups through a unique Mentoring Program that will link new organizations with existing tree groups; and enhance grassroots efforts through a strategic search to identify a permanent funding source for urban forestry in California. On the recommendation of the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council, the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program awarded a $27,150 grant to the $55,290 project.
